GROUND HANDLING
SERVICES
Ground
handling services include all the services an aircraft needs during the period
it remains on the ground. Some airlines receive these services from a ground
handling services company while others prefer to use their own equipment. They
provides ground handling services in five different operational areas:
PASSENGER SERVICES
·
Incoming passenger acceptance and
guidance to baggage claim areas and terminal exit,
·
Lost, damaged and transfer baggage
processes of incoming passengers (if any),
·
Safe acceptance of outgoing passengers
to the aircraft,
RAMP SERVICES
·
Meeting and marshalling the aircraft,
·
Offloading and loading the aircraft,
·
Equipment supply,
·
Provision of Ground Power Unit, Air
Condition Unit and Aircraft Push-Back Tractor services,,,
·
Passenger and crew transport between
aircraft and passenger terminals,
CARGO AND MAIL SERVICES
·
Acceptance of export cargo and mail
documents,
·
Physical control and preparation of
export cargo and mail,
·
Custom transactions of export cargo,
·
Detection of disruption of imported
cargo and mail if any, and taking necessary actions,

Transfer cargo services.
LOAD CONTROL, COMMUNICATIONS AND
FLIGHT OPERATION SERVICES
·
Coordination of aircraft servicing
units,

Preparation and distribution of flight
documents (customs declaration, loading instruction, load sheet, manifest,
weather forecast, flight plan etc.),
·
Load control, weight and balance
calculations,

Communication and coordination between
aircraft and ground services.

As we regard the passenger services , luggages are taken as early as possible and taking luggages to aircraft is hard way . when luggages are taken to aircraft, somehow they are preserved. on the other hand , while passengers are taking their luggages. they have to wait for a long time . also their luggages can be damaged during the waiting period because luggages slumpand this fall leads to damage. Accordingly, while some airline cover the loss, some of them dont. For example, Turkish airlines cover the loss but pegasus dont accept responsibility and dont cover the loss.Furthermore , weighted luggage was decreasedfrom 30 kg to 20 kg in domesticand extra money is paid for every extra kg (approximitly 12 tl per a kg).Similarly during the transportation of some furniture such as spoon , exttra money is paid. when we consider ramp services , passengers are transported to entrance and exit with bus sometimes but generally in Turkey this system isnt used. With regard to cargo and mail services, there are some matters which are banned to transport in aircraft like explosive and burning.Even transportation of such matters are accepted by airlines and civil aviation , when pilot doesnt want totransport, these matter can not be transported because the pilot has the last word. when we think about load control , communication , and flight operation services , the balance of aircraft is toward to front, stall speed increased and it leads to decreased in fuel when the balance is toward the back , it is hard to control . when the balance right or left , it presents a danger. briefly , balance is calculated efficiently and pilot is informed. when we consider representation and supervision services required deals are made because aircrafts dont fly to airline, which dont make deal. for instance , the aircraft of pegaus cannot fly to atatürk airport.
YanıtlaSilAs a private pilot who has his licance and is a ATPL student, I know what they deal with exactly. I think those people on the ground has the hardest job in aviation industry. I appriciate what they do and know in which conditions they do it and they deserve a great appreciation. When you choose this topic you point out how hard their job is.
YanıtlaSilGround handling service is one of the most important service of airports. I think it is the most important and vital. In this service, personnel should be careful. For example the loading of cargo calculation is life-sustaining topic because for aircraft, take off mass, landing mass or structural mass control is so important and all aircraft have a limit. Besides, The passenger handling services is substantial. To carry the passengers' baggage and to prevent confusing them is difficult. Therefore, personnel of ground services deserve a distillation. In Turkey TAV aero is the pioneer of this sector.
